Point Reduction

Point reduction is crucial to maintaining a license without restrictions. Any time a citation is given, points are added to your license. If you receive a certain number of points within a limited amount of time, your license can be suspended or revoked. It is important to take advantage of the opportunity to remove points from your license as soon as the infraction occurs.

Point reduction is possible by enrolling in a course specifically designed to teach the basics of driver safety. This course emphasizes such things as the way to be a responsible driver and defensive driving strategies. Many people drive while doing other things. While you are behind the wheel is not the time to apply makeup, read the paper, or work on the computer! The instructors convey the importance of safe driving practices.

More about the Point Reduction Course

Awareness of your surroundings is key to safe driving. Pay attention to the signs, signals, and markings on the roadways. The basic driver improvement curriculum includes sections on driving in the city, on the expressway, and in a variety of environments. It also covers the consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

The final exam is available online and you must score at least 80 percent to receive a certificate of proof for the court. Each state has its own guidelines about point reduction. In Florida, you are allowed to take the course only one time in 12 months for the purpose of reducing points. There are some citations that cannot be helped. If there was an injury because of the infraction, the criterion is completely different.
